paper
Dimensions: 200 x 120 cm
ÖMAK, Inv. K.l. 37197
Gustav Klimt’s design for the trieze in the
dining-room of Palais Stoclet in Brussels is
now in the Austrian Museum of Applied Art
(a total of nine parts). The frieze, which
was composed of many materials similar
to a mosaic, was executed by the Wiener
Werkstätte together with the Wiener Mo
saikwerkstätte Forstner.
Düring restauration work notes on the exe-
cution of the frieze were found on the
parts of the design folded around the
wood on which it was originally mounted.
These notes and a description of the en-
tire restauration were published for the
first time by Ludwig Neustifter in his
article “Der Entwurf Gustav Klimts für den
Fries im Palais Stoclet in Brüssel” (in: alte
und moderne kunst 136-137/1984,
pp. 27-34).
