The comparison of these two candlesticks
produced by Josef Hoffmann and Kolo Mo
ser respectively in the same period (1903)
is intended to illustrate the marked dif-
ferences in the design of an article with
the same function: Hoffmann’s emphasis
of rectilinearity and Moser’s sweeping cur-
ves. However, it should be added that the
work of the two artists is sometimes stylis-
tically more similar as a result of their
mutual influence on one another.
