Griff  und  Ausgulj  dieser  Schnabelkanne  sind  in  Form  des
Kopfes  und  Rüssels  eines  Elefanfen  gearbeifef.  Die  Zwiebelform ­
  des  Geföfjes  und  des  Deckels  ahmen  Amalaka  und
Kalasa  nach,  die  gewisse  mitfelalferliche  indische  Tempel
bekrönen.  Die  Durchbrucharbeit  des  Fu^es  und  das  Diamanfenmusfer
  am  Hals  sind  dagegen  im  islamischen  Stil
gehalten.  So  wird  dieser  Krug  zu  einem  Beispiel  für  die
indo-islamische  Mischkunsf,  die  besonders  in  der  späteren
Kultur  des  Dekhan  blühte.

Besitzer  Abul  Hasan  Tana  Shah,  1672—1687,  der  letzte

Hersteller  Sarkar  Ismail  Khan  genannt.

A  spouted  vessel  in  bronze,  fhe  handle  and  spout  showing  Ihe
mofit  ot  an  elephant  head  and  trunk.  The  bulbous  shape  of  the
vessel  is  reminiscent  ot  an  Amalaka  and  the  top  and  the  lid  are
typical  ot  the  Kalasa  usually  placed  on  top  ot  a  temple  Sikhara.
The  tiligree  work  of  the  base  and  the  diamond  design  at  the  neck
are  bofh  Muslim  style.  This  is  a  typical  example  of  a  blend  ot
Hindu  and  Muslim  art  motifs  so  characteristic  ot  late  Mediaeval
Deccani  culture.

The  name  of  Abul  Hasan  Tana  Shah  (1672—1687),  the  last  ot  the
Qutb  Shahi  Rulers  of  Golkonda  is  engraved  on  the  rim  ot  the
vessel.  On  the  body  of  the  vessel  is  also  the  name  ot  the  engrover
Sarkar  Ismail  Khan.
