CASING IN WHITE AND BLACK
(cat. nos. 263-356, pp. 283-334)
Haida school of glassmaking also played an important role in double cased glass (white
and black). We know of several glasses executed by the school of glassmaking from
Contemporary literature (cat. nos. 263-266), and some Originals still survive (cat. no.
267). Large series were produced by Oertel/Haida to school of glassmaking designs
(cat. nos. 271-272). In this context it should be pointed out that although a certain type
of glass may have been produced frequently, there were differences in details, such as
the knob of a covered vase (cat. nos. 271-272). Another Version of the same model has
a lid with a black, uncut knob.
Other factories also produced black-white casings: Harrach/Neuwelt (cat. no. 270,
design Jelinek), Goldberg/Haida (cat. no. 273), Tschernich/Haida (cat. nos. 274-275).
The multi-layered glasses which Margold designed for Schappel (cat. nos. 276-279) also
included black-white versions (cat. no. 278).
However, the largest group of black-white glass is the so-called Borussia glass by the
Schappel Company (cat. nos. 281- 356). Almost the entire ränge is illustrated here, as
many Originals have survived, as well as a catalogue of the Schappel Company.
