CONTEMPORARY MAPS
Two of the maps from the middle of the 19th Century are especially informative,
since they refer to industry, particularly the glass industry,
within the area of the Monarchy: the “Statistisch-topographische
JNDUSTRIE-KARTE DES KOENIGREICHES BOEHMEN entworfen
,. . von / Ernst von Schwarzer. / PRAG 1842” (statistic-topographic
industry map of the kingdom of Bohemia drafted ... by Ernst von
Schwarzer. Prague 1842) and the “KARTE DER GLASWAAREN-JNDUSTRIE
der OESTERREICH ISCHEN MONARCHIE. Herausgegeben
von der k. k. Direction der administrativen Statistik. 1857” (map
of the glasswares industry of the Austrian Monarchy. Published by the
Imperial Office for Administrative Statistics, 1857)
Already contained in fragments in previous sections of the book, a
Compilation of the excerpts from these maps appeared to be meaningful
at this point in order to provice a better orientation. Both the travel
route to the Slavonic glassworks (Vienna - Ofen - Essek -
Zvecevo, s. ill. 820) and the locations of the glass industry in Bohemia
and Slavonia are evident. To make the presentation even clearer,
I have highlighted the main places with a dark rectangular background;
this is the only change compared with the Originals.
