INTRODUCTION

My encounter with glass Christmas tree Ornaments began with
the discovery of Bohemian glass beads in the collection of the
Technical Museum in Vienna. They had belonged to the socalled
collection of factory products and up to the time of the
“discovery” practically no notice had been taken of them. In
1994 I devoted an exhibition and a book to the subject of
“Beads from Gablonz.” Logically, this led to the publication of
“Glass Bead Christmas Tree Ornaments” (1995) which is now
followed with the present work on “Glass Christmas Tree Ornaments
  - Austria-Czechoslovakia.”
A documentation of this kind was both inspired and made possible
by a Contemporary Company catalogue that turned up unexpectedly.
  Specialized literature already published often
treated the subject of glass Christmas tree Ornaments in
detailed and knowledgeable chapters of their own, but for the
most part omitted the reproduction of complete catalogues, limiting

themselves to single pages (mostly from newspapers,
magazines or various kinds of advertising material).
SPECIALIZED LITERATURE ON CHRISTMAS TREE
ORNAMENTS
Two publications stand out in specialized German literature
from recent years; they include comprehensive bibliographies:
Christbaumschmuck/Aus den Sammlungen des Museums für Volkskunde
(Christmas Tree Ornaments / from the collections of the Museum
  for Folklore), Berlin 1992
Wolfram Metzger-Jutta Tremmel-Endras: Bäume leuchtend, Bäume
blendend - Historischer Christbaumschmuck (Sparkling Trees,
Brilliant Trees - Historie Christmas Tree Ornaments), Karlsruhe 1996
(from an exhibition in the Baden State Museum of Karlsruhe).
