172 Katalog VIKTORIN A SPOL., Hradec Krälove (Königgrätz), nach 1935, unpaginiert (Tafel 7b), 21.1 x27.1 cm.-Archiv W. Neuwirth, Wien
172 Catalogue VIKTORIN A SPOL., Hradec Krälove (Königgrätz), after 1935, unpaginated (plate 7b), 21.1 x27.1 cm. - W. Neuwirth Archives, Vienna
usually smooth and often pinched in only on the lower rim.
Other well known caps (e.g. those with CZECHOSLOVAKIA)
show three or more incisions which make it easier to press the
metal together (ill. 39, p. 21). Occasionally the surface of the
caps are given a relief pattem (p. 21, ill. 42). If we refer to Contemporary
address books for trade and industry and other
specialized address books from the time of the Austrian-Hungarian
Monarchy and afterwards, we find a number of Companies
listed under the heading “Christmas Tree Ornaments”
(see Neuwirth, Glass Bead Christmas Tree Ornaments,
pp. 23-28). Following the First World War, Austria (now much
reduced in size) apparently feit the need for a corresponding
production of its own.
Most of the Christmas tree Ornaments marked with MADE IN
AUSTRIA or AUSTRIA were probably made during the time
from 1920 (to today?) and most of these were made by certain
Companies. One of the most outstanding was probably
THE EGGELING CHRISTMAS TREE ORNAMENT
FACTORY IN TRAISMAUER AND VIENNA
In the early 1920s, the Company named “J. Eggeling German-Austrian
Christmas Tree Ornament Factory” was founded in
Traismauer. The first entry in Compass gives the owner as Josef
Eggeling and puts the number of employees at 50 (Compass
IV/1924, p. 1802), in 1925 only 20-30 (Compass IV/1925,
p. 1716). This number remains unchanged in this source until
1945. The Company name is documented from 1924 to 1944
(Industry Compass, Austria, 1924-1944). After that the Company
trades under the name, “Austrian Christmas Tree Ornament
Factory” (Compass 78/1945).
In 1950 the Vienna Trade Registry lists the Company, “Franz
Eggeling & Co., ‘Leonische’ Wire Industry and Christmas Tree
Ornament Factory,” as a general partnership with the partners
Franz Eggeling, Vienna, and Anna Eggeling, Traismauer
