OSWALD DITTRICH (pp. 194-203)
Oswald Dittrich drew up the “oval smooth” and “oval faceted” decorations for flower
sets (vases and bowls) that were produced from 1912/13 (in black bronzite and gold).
The same shapes were used for the cylindrical flower vase and the oval flower bowl as
for Hoffmann’s variant D, E and F flower sets:
Flower bowl (A 8142-11)
Lenhardt 1842-12, Rath 921-20 (shape 8142-11, 429-12)
Lenhardt 1843-12
Flower vase (A 8141-11)
Lenhardt 1949-13, Eiselt 59-18,
Pietsch 305-19 (with note: shape 8722-18 like 8141-11)
LUDWIG HEINRICH JUNGNICKEL (pp. 204-216)
Jungnickel’s “black bronzite decoration with fine mat etched apes” for rummers (some-
times also referred to as hock glasses) was used for glasses “with a straight bowl” and
“with a round bowl”. From 1911 onwards this was certainly one of the most populär
bronzite decorations. We know of the following painter’s shape or serial numbers for
this decoration:
Rümmer with straight bowl (8148-11)
Fiedler 186-11, Lenhardt 2072-14, Eiselt 20-17, Rath 935-20
Rümmer with round bowl (8149-11)
Fiedler 187-11, Eiselt 21-17, Rath 936-20
The chequerboard stem of the original design (p. 208) was not used in production
(p. 209). The difference that results even when differenrpainters are working from the
same original motif is clearly visible in a comparison of two gobiets which were certainly
decorated by two different painters (pp. 212-215).
LUDWIG HEINRICH JUNGNICKEL AND URBAN JANKE (pp. 217-229)
We find notes referring to the joint work of Jungnickel and Janke both on certain work
ing drawings and in the order books of the Lobmeyr Company, though the work done by
each artist is not detailed. However, it seems logical to attribute the animal drawings to
Jungnickel.
Ovals and circles with stylised animals are found in the geometrical ornamentation
which covers the sides of the “oval faceted" flower set. The rigid two dimensional nature
of the representation - even in the Position of the animal bodies - is emphasised by the
contrast of the black bronzite against the crystal giass background.
The following giass types can be attributed to specific shape or serial numbers, the Or
der numbers indicating the years after 1911 (violet jardiniere) or 1912 (all other glass-
ware):
Jardiniere(199-12)
Fiedler 256-12, Lenhardt 2076-15, Eiselt 3-17,
Pietsch 303-19 (with note: shape 8720-18 like 199-12)
Pot (200-12)
Fiedler 258-12, Eiselt 4-17,
Pietsch 304-19 (with note: shape 8721-18 like 200-12)
Vase (201-12)
