HIS  page  illustrates  another
and  most  important  application
  of  Electro-Metallurgy
to  Art  Manufactures.  The
Statues,  &c.,  obtained  in  this
manner  being  exact  facsimiles
  must  necessarily  represent
  a  faithful  rendering
of  the  artist’s  thought  and
labour,  which  are  very  often
spoiled  by  careless  casting  and  incompetent
  chasing.  The  same  or  greater
strength  and  thickness  of  metal  may  be
obtained  as  in  casting,  there  being,  in  fact.

no  limit  in  this  matter,  while  the  cost  is
considerably  less.
Düring  the  last  few  years  Elkington
&  Co.  have  produced  several  public
monuments  by  this  process,  and  have  invariably
  given  the  greatest  satisfaction.
The  photographs  represent  reductions
  from  the  statues  of  Burke  and
Goldsmith,  by  J.  H.  Foley,  R.A.  (erected
in  Dublin),  and  an  antique  group  discovered
  at  Herculaneum,  Hercules
subduing  the  vEnonian  Stag  (the  third
labour).  The  bas-reliefs  on  the  pedestal
represent  his  twelve  labours.
