house building, but is not very durable.
4.442. Ain. Mangifera indica. Wood, will not bear
exposure. Weight about 42 lbs. to the cuhic foot.
4.443. Gooler. Ficus glomerata. This wood is
largely used for well frames. It resists decay
while submerged, but is not durable as a building
timber.
4.444. Bahera. Terminalia belerica. Coarse grained,
attacked by insects. Of little value as a building
timber.
4.445. Mohen. Odina wodier. Weighs 41 lbs. to
the cubic foot, and is used for spokes of wheels
and posts.
4.446. Lendya. LagerstrEemia parviflora. Capital
wood for small buildings, and is much used in
native houses.
4.447. Salai. Boswellia thurifera. Not durable;
common boxes are made from it. Weight, 39 lbs.
to the cubic foot.

for naves of wheels and sugar Crushers.

not subject to warp. Is a favourite for cabinet
work. Weight, 31 lbs. to the cubic foot.

Indian timber used in ship and house building.

4.451. Sheshum. Dalbergia latifolia. Is one of
the rosewood of commerce, and is used extensively
in cabinet work. Weight, 66 lbs. per cubic foot.
4.452. Anjan. Hardwickia binata. Strong and
durable, used for railway sleepers and beams.

4.453. Rohau. Soymeda febrifuga. Subject to
split by exposure, but does well for indoor beams.

4.454. Kussie. Briedelia montana. Strong, tough,
and Stands water well. Is a good durable wood.
4.455. Mowha. Bassia latifolia. Strong tough wood,
but not much used. Is liable to the attacks of
insects.

wood, makes Capital beams and rafters. Weight,
50 lbs. to the cubic foot.

wood, employed for tent pegs, plough shares, and
sugar cane rollers. Weight, 54 lbs. per foot.
4.458. Banyan. Ficus indica. A rather useless
wood. The air drops are used for tent pegs and
small masts.

wood for cabinet making, but rather brittle.
