Twine made from Moong (Saccharum munja). Ex
hibited by Oude Local Committee.
String called “ saranaj,” or “ sarmanji darf,” from
Ramjivanpur, a police outpost in the Gurbetta sub
division, Midnapore district. Exhibited by the Bengal
Committee.
Made from a reed called “sar” (Saccharum
munja), from whieh pens are also made. Tliis
string is much used in building the better sort
of native huts. Finer qualities are sometimes
made.
C.—FABRICS OF FLAX, HEMP, JUTE.
Thia subdivision was represented in the present colleetion from India by one exhibit only,
although many articles are produced which would find a place here, such as gunny bag
ging and niats, finer manufactures from jute, mats made from Aloe fibre in the North
western jails, and all manufactures from flax, hemp, rheea, pine apple fibre, &c., and
their substitutes.

A very fine kind of mat made in the Tum-
look subdivision, Midnapore district.

A “ Saji ” or flower-basket of bamboo. From Gur
betta, Midnapore district.
Made by “ Domes.” Used for offerings of
flowers made to idols.
Indore Local Committee.
“ Tatputtee.” Made at the village of Raoo near
Indore.
This is a coarse matting made in narrow
pieces from string of “ Sunn ” fibre (Crotalaria
juncea). It is much used for packing purposes,
and for coarse flooring. It is made at every jail,
and is common all over the country.
