elbow on the arm muscle; to these are sus-
pended the pendants called “goondees” or

1. “Gugra.”
Bracelet. Worn next the hand by Hindoo
women only.
2. “ Rajahseye kukna.”
This is worn like the preeeding one, and only
by Hindoo women.
3-7. “Nagoiree.”
Worn next the hand by Hindoo and Maho-
medan women alike.
8-19. “ Ponchee.”
These bracelets are worn in the same manner
next the hand by Hindoo and Mahomedan
women. Many have distinctive names apart
from the general term “ ponchee,” aceording
as they are supposed to represent rat’s teeth,
tree blossoms, or the bead-like seeds of either
grains or shrubs.
20,21. “Tora.”
No 20 is worn on the wrist by Hindoo men
only.
No. 21 is worn alike by Hindoo and Mahome
dan men and women only.
22-27. “ Chun.”
These bracelets are almost exelusively worn by
Hindoo women ; they are worn in the centre of
the “choories,” either of lac or silver. The
“ choorie ” being the small ornamented bracelet
of which 8 to 10 and more are worn at a time.
The “choories ”«are worn next to the wristlets.
28-33. “Kurrah.”
These bracelets are worn by Hindoo and
Mahomedan men and women. When worn by
the women they are worn next the hand fol-
lowed by the “ choories,” and above the “ choo
ries ” next the elbow. When worn bymen they
are worn singly, and are usually merely the
safest way of carrying wealth or savings.
34-44. “ Kukunia.”
These bracelets are also worn next the hand,
and are chiefly used by Hindoo women.
45-48. “ Kuttree.”
Worn only by Hindoo women, and then
always above the “ choories ” near the elbow.
49-54. “ Panchluree.”
These also are worn only by Hindoo women,
and only in the manner just described as the
termination to thdfr choories.”
56-58. “Teesa.”
Hindoo and Mahomedan men and women
alike wear this Ornament, but they are confined
to. the villages and country-folk classes. They
are worn by the women next the wrist, and
above the “ choories.”
I 59-63. “Puttah.”
Worn only by Hindoo widows; some few
Mahomedan widows wear them ; these also are
peculiar to the villagers and country people.
64-66. “Ponchee.”
Worn by Hindoo women only, and always
worn above the “ choories.”
67-73. “ Puchua.”
Worn above the “ choories ” by all classes of
Hindoo and Mahomedan women.
76-85. “ Agelah.”
These brass bracelets are sometimes worn
graduated up to the elbow; sometimes merely
in pairs. They are only worn by the lowest
classes of Hindoo women, Aheers, Koonbees,
&c.
86-87. “ Bala ” or “ Kuday.”
Worn by Hindoo and Mahomedan women;
these are worn next the hand.
89-94. “Putturee.”
Worn by Hindoo and Mahomedan women
and children. Worn in the midst of the
“ choories.”
95. “Tintwarra.”
These are worn by Hindoo women only
above the “ choories.”
96-174. “Choories.”
These bracelets are worn in all materials, and
even a rieh lady sees nothing incongruous in a
massive gold wristlet surmounted by any num-
ber of lac and tinsel “ choories.” Mahomedans
and Hindoos alike wear them. The lac “ choo
ries ” have been left in exactly the Order they
are displayed for sale, and each roll contains a
pair.
Nos. 170 and 171 were made by a worker of
embroidered Slippers, and are, he certified, worn
by rieh women, and only made to Order.
No. 175 are ivory “ choories ” worn by the
Brinjaries, or race of gipsies.
Nos. 135 to 145. These brass “ choories ”
are worn almost exelusively by the washerwomen
dass; they may be seen with their arms loaded
with these narrow eircles from the wrist to the
elbow.

Worn by little boys. Madras.

Worn by Naick women.
183. “Noagri.”
Worn on the wrist, threaded on silk. Silver.

This is made of “tamba,” and worn on the
wrist. Rajpootana.

This bracelet is worn by Meos and Chumbals
