to wear rings on the second finger.

Signet ring. Worn by Hindoo women only,
and chiefly by the country folk.

Worn by Hindoo and Mahomedan women on
the third and little finger.

1. “Angia.” Small jacket. Ornamented with
leaden bracelets sewed on.
This is worn by the lower classes only; the
richer Hindoo women wear a simple unorna-
mented jacket.
I. —ANKLETS.
I- 9. “Pyree.”
Worn round the ankle, chiefly by Hindoo and
Mahomedan women of the villages and country
side.
II- 18. “Gutwhee,” “Pyree.”
These anklets are worn by the Hindoo women
of the lowest classes only.
19-31. “ Goongroo.”
The name has reference to a tinkling sound,
and is used for all Ornaments to which small
bells are attached, or which jingle in any way.
These anklets are worn alike by Hindoo and
Mahomedan women.
33, 34. “ Churrah.”
Worn by Hindoo and Mahomedan women of
all classes; the richer wear, of course, silver.
Hindoos, as a rule, except those of the Rajah’s
family, are not allowed to wear gold on th eir
feet.
37-42. “ Sankurrah ” or “ Tora.”
These anklets are worn usually by Hindoo
men, more rarely by the women; the same
design is worn on the wrist occasionally.
44, 45. “ Pyree Chun.”
Worn by Mahomedan women only.
47. “Mull.”
Worn by Hindoo and Mahomedan women;
the women in Bengal are most partial to this
Ornament.
48-53. “ Puonjeb.”
Worn chiefly by Hindoo women ; when in the
common metals, they are worn only by the very
lowest castes.
54, 55. “ Kurree.”
Worn by Hindoo and Mahomedan women.
56-59. “ Bauhun.”
These anklets are worn by Hindoo women
only.
60-73. “ Jehang,” “ Kurra.”
Hindoo and Mahomedan women alike wear
these anklets.
74-76. “ Goongeroo Kurra.”
In the Deccan these are only worn by Hindoo
women.
77- “ Maharatti Thora.”
These little anklets are for a child, to be worn
above the “kurra.” Silver. Rajpootana.
78. “ Pola Kurrah.”
This is worn on the ankle under No. 77-
Silver. Rajpootana.
79. “Tora.”
Worn above the ankle. Rajpootana.
80. “ Pail.” Rajpootana.
Worn above the “kurra;” under which
again is worn the “tora;” grains of shot are
put into these Ornaments to make them jingle.
81. “ Neoree.” Rajpootana.
These anklets are worn by Kumbas and
Kungrees, Hindoos, and Mussulmans, Ulwar.
82. “ Rumjole.” Also worn by Kumbas of Ulwar,
Rajpootana.
83. Worn in Sumbulpore, Central Provinces.
84. Silver anklet. Worn by the women of the
North-west Provinces.
This pattem is supposed to represent the
Cingara or water-nut blossom.

1-18. “Aonta.”
Worn on the big toe by Hindoo women only.
19, 20. “ Challa.”
Worn on the big toe by Hindoo and Maho
medan women alike.
21, 25. “Jornah.” Worn by Mahrattee and Dee-
canee women only.
This ring is worn on the second toe.
27-38. “ Pylanee.”
This Ornament is worn slipped over the
second toe, and lying back on the foot; it is
worn only by Hindoo women.
39-43. “ Bichwa.”
Worn on the second, third, fourth, and fifth
toes by Hindoo women only.
44-47. “ Chutkee.”
Worn on the second, third, fourth, and fifth
toes by Hindoo women only.
