“ Bhur ” boat. Daoca. A boat for heavy coarse
cargo.
“ Sonamukhi,” golden faced. Dacca. A descrip-
tion of the kind of boat called chhip; gets
its name from the prow being ornamented
with gilding. Used for quick travelling.
“ Mayur panki,” or peacock boat. Dacca. An-
other description of the chhip. Its make ex-
plains its narne. Used similar to No. 5.
“ Chhip.” From Dacca. A narrow elongated
pansi, common in Moorshedabad. Das gene-
rally 10 to 20 rowers. Used for quick travel-
‘ Dingi.” From Serampore. The ordinary kind
of dingi. Used in the rivers of Bengal.
“ Madh.” From Chittagong. A float made of
bamboo and cane. Used about Chittagong.
“ Kheya dingi,” _ or ferry boat. Chittagong. A
kind of dingi used as a ferry boat about Chit
tagong.
“ Hudi,” or Ulak boat. Chittagong. Used on
the coast about Chittagong.
Dingi-sharunga.” Chittagong. A dug-out eon-
verted into a dingi, and used as a ferry boat
about Chittagong.
“ Chhot,” or Balam boat. Chittagong. Used as
a passenger boat in deep water. Has generally
two or thrce cabins.
“ Nauka.” From Bancoorah. The common boat
for carrying produce in the district of Ban
coorah.
“ Donga ” (double). Bancoorah. Two dug-outs
joined together for the purpose of making a
safe ferry boat.
“ Bhela.”. Bancoorah. A raft or float made from
the pith of the sola plant (Gvschynomene palu-
dosa). Used for fishing or for Crossing rivers
in flood.
“ Bhela.” Bogra. Differs from the preceding
one in shape only. Used for fishing.
“ Shalti.” A dug-out. Singbhum. Used on the
river of the south-western frontier.
“ Telodonga.” Serampore. A dug-out formed
outof thetrunk of the Borassus flahelliformis.
Used for navigating shallow drains andwater-
courses.
“Jele dingi.” Serampore. The boat commonly
used by fishermen on the Gangetic rivers.
“ Ulak.” From Patna. The kind of boat used
on the Gangetic rivers for carrying country
produce.
“ Chari.” Nattore, Rajshahye district. Anearthen
tub used as a boat.
“Vewa.” Jessore. A raft made of three or more
plantain trees, secured by pieccs of bamboo
run through and through.
