253.  Homogeneous  pink  salt,  Soojewal  seam,  50  feet.
254.  Reddish  grey  earthy  salt,  or  “  Kuller,”  100
feet  thick.
255.  Sulphate  of  potassa  and  magnesia,  Kieserite,  disseminatedrhrough
  a  zoneof  6  feet  in  thickness.
At  the  base  of  this  comes—
256.  Finely  laminated  mixture  of  earthy  common
salt,  and  Epsom  salts,  7  feet  in  thickness.
257.  Pink  and  white  salt,  Phurwalla  seam,  50  feet
thick.
258.  Impure  salt,  apparently  from  helow  the  Phurwalla ­
  seam.
259.  Red  salt,  from  the  old  “  Billuwalla”  mine,  apparently ­
  the  lowest  seam  visible  in  the  series.
The  geological  section  or  series  below  this  is  unknown.

The  following  specimens  are  of  the  salt  and  associated
  saline  minerals,  from  the  large  mines  at  Keora,
(the  Mayo  mines).
260.  Block  of  rock  salt,  cut  vertically  from  the  Phurwalla, ­
  50  feet  seam  of  salt;  the  inelined
coloured  hands  show  the  lines  of  stratification,
dip  of  beds  in  situ,  35°  to  N.  30  W.
Owing  to  its  size  this  specimen  (and  the  following
one)  has  necessarily  heen  placed  a  little  apart  from
the  general  Collection.  They  will  he  found  at  the
north-west  end  of  the  Indian  department.
261.  Pale  red  and  whitish  salt  in  natural  cubes  of
large  size,  from  the  Soojewall  seam.
262.  Specimens  of  clear  transparent  cubic  crystals  of
salt,  from  the  surface  of  a  fissure  in  the  Soojewall ­
  seam.
263.  Slab  of  salt,  with  cubes  on  surface,  from  the
Soojewall  seam.
264.  Salt,  crystallizing  in  pyramidal  cubic  forms,
occurring  with  glauberite,  and  associated  with
the  ordinary  cubical  crystals,  from  Phurwalla
seam.
265.  Block,  composed  of  large  cubic  and  hopper
crystals  of  salt,  formed  by  slow  evaporation  of
a  hrine-pool,  from  the  old  mine  Koosuk,  10
miles  from  Keora.
266.  Cluster  of  crystals,  similarly  formed,  from  the
old  mine  Koosuk,  10  indes  from  Keora.
267.  Stalactitie  salt,  from  the  Mayo  mines.
268.  Fihrous  salt,  formed  on  the  surface  of  saline
earth  within  the  mines,  from  the  Mayo  mines.
269.  Dendritic  salt,  formed  by  drippings  from  stalactites,
  from  the  Mayo  mines.
269a.  Undetermined  mixture  of  gypsum  and  common ­
  salt.
270.  Impure  Epsomite  incrusting  the  saline  marl  of
the  roof  of  Phurwalla  seam.
271.  Glauberite,  in  oblique  rhombic  prisms,  from  a
fissure  in  salt  seam,  associated  with  pyramidal
and  ordinary  cubes  of  salt,  from  Phurwala
seam.
272.  Sulphate  of  potassa  and  magnesia,  thickly  disseminated
  through  a  6-feet  zone  of  No.

273.  Crystals  of  seiende,  from  a  fissure  in  the  salt
seam;  from  Soojewalla  salt  seam.
274.  Massive  alabaster-like  gypsum,  of  pink  colour;
from  the  Mayo  mines.
275.  Anhydrite,  partially  affected  hy  gypsum,  contains ­
  5  per  Cent,  of  water;  from  the  Mayo
mines.
275a.  Granulär  gypsum,  with  detached  crystals  of
quartz,  bipyramidal,  imbedded.  From  Maree
on  the  Indus  river.
2755.  Quartz  crystals,  from  Maree  on  the  Indus
river,  separated  from  the  matrix.
The  preceding  series  of  salts  has  been  contrihuted
to  the  Geological  Survey  hy  the  Commissioner  of
Inland  Customs,  through  H.  Warth,  Ph.D.
Artificially  Evajiorated  Salts.
276.  Bunwar  salt,  from  Warapada,  Ganjam.
277.  Ganjam  salt,  from  Ganjam,  Madras.
278.  Punga  salt,  from  Pooree,  Bengal.
279.  Kurkutch  salt,  from  Kuttack,  Bengal.
The  preceding  salts  are  all  derived  from  the  waters
of  the  sea  along  the  coast.
280.  Sultanpoori  salt,  from  Basseerpoor,  Goorgaon.
281.  Black  salt,  from  Bheerwarree,  Hissar.
282.  Chotia  salt,  from  Gwalior.
283.  Kuteela  salt,  from  Bhurtpoor.
284.  Punniah  salt,  from  Budungurh  Bhurtpoor.
285.  Sambhur  salt,  red  variety,  from  the  Sambhur
Salt  lake,  or  jheel,  in  Jeypoor.
286.  Sambhar  salt  (white  variety),  from  the  Sambhur
Salt  lake,  or  jheel,  in  J  eypoor.
The  red  variety  is  only  obtained  during  the  hottest
time  of  the  year.  The  colouring  matter  is  organic.
287.  Deedhwarrah  salt,  from  Deedhwarrah,  Jodhpoor.
289.  Phollowdee  salt,  from  Phollowdee  lake,  Jodhpoor. ­

290.  Kansia  salt,  from  Puchbhudra  lake,  Jodhpoor.
291.  Kharee  salt,  from  Bikaneer.
The  preceding  salts  are  all  derived  from  the  water
of  salt  springs,  or  of  brine  lakes.
292.  Buragara  salt,  from  Patree,  Ahmedabad,
Bombay.
293.  Buragara  salt,  from  Geegeewarra,  Bombay.
294.  Black  Kokan  salt,  from  the  Matoonga  Rawlee
pans,  Dadur,  Bombay.
295.  Rock  salt,  from  the  rivers  at  Mundi.
The  following  salts  (No.  296  to  No.  305)  are  entirely
  from  the  water  of  the  sea;  evaporated  in
shallow  basins  artificially  made,  by  the  heat  of  the  sun.
They  are  from  the  Madras  coast,  and  have  been
sent  by  the  Madras  Committee.
296.  Salt  (Ist  sort),  from  the  Padarti  Cotaur,  in  the
