Thonet Brother
OF
PROGRESS
The original process of manufacture was limited to only the bending of round stock, which
gave the natural impetus to produce the common type chair, such as the No. 14 and 18.
Subsequent achievements resulted in not only the bending of square sections, without
strain on the wood fibre, but also in the bending of unusually stout sizes in acute angles
as well as rectangles.
These improvements opened the way to fields previously undreamed of in the manu
facture of bentwood furniture, so that for the past several years, Thonet Brothers, Inc.,
have been enabled to meet the discriminating tastes of the most exacting architect or
decorator in reproducing the finest examples of period furniture of the old Spanish,
French, Italian and English craftsmanship, without sacrificing the prime essentials of
bentwood—that is, LIGHTNESS, STRENGTH and DURABILITY.
Owing to the hardness and evenness of the grain, the wood used in the manufacturing of
bentwood chairs reproduces almost perfectly the colors and effects of the various hard-
wood finishes, such as Walnut, Mahogany and Satinwood.
Today the regulär Thonet line in America embraces not only many of these styles, but
tables of every description, chair frames, built in typical Thonet fashion, for upholstery
and for special treatment and coloring to harmonize with any desired decorative scheme
while the diversity of designs in Thonet Bentwood make this sturdy furniture available
for practically every purpose.
