designer Hans Coray used the motif for his
aluminum chair “Landi” designed for the 1939
Swiss National Exhibition in Zürich. Circular
Perforation was also offered in the seat and
backrest, which was molded from one sheet
of aluminum, since this allowed rainwater to
flow through it better when the chair was used
outdoors. In the late 1950s, it was the architect
Roland Rainer, who designed the so-called
“Stadthallensessel,” as part of the furnishings
of his civic center in Vienna. The molded ply
wood seat and backrest of this chair is char-
acterized by the hole pattem in the backrest.
Like Coray’s “Landi," which until now has been
re-introduced in several new editions, Rainer's
“Stadthallensessel” was re-launched at the in-
stigation of the architect Gregor Eichinger in
the mid-1 990s and temporarily put into pro-
duction with slight structural improvements.
