Der sogenannte Frästeller wurde ab etwa 1881 
verwendet. Er löste den Prägestempel „THONET“ 
ab. Auf der Innenseite des Sitzrahmens, meist vor 
ne Mitte, wurde ein kreisförmiger Bereich mit ei 
nem Durchmesser von etwa 40 mm ausgefräst, 
damit man eine plane Fläche erhielt, auf der man 
einen mit schwarzer Farbe unterlegten Stempel 
„THONET“ einpresste. Später wurde die Fläche 
bis auf 62 mm vergrößert und erhielt den Zusatz 
„AUSTRIA“ oder auch eine Zahl, deren Bedeutung 
nicht eindeutig ist. 
The so-called circular milled area was used from 
about 1881. It replaced the “THONET” emboss- 
ing stamp. On the inside of the seat frame, usually 
at the center, a circular area with a diameter of 
about 40 mm was milled out so that a smooth sur- 
face was obtained on which “THONET” was 
stamped in black. Later, the area was enlarged to 
62 mm and received the suffix “AUSTRIA” or a 
number whose meaning is not clear.
